    THE DESCRIPTION OF DELHI NCR AND ITS PLACES

    The National Capital Region, a planning area, is located in India's National Capital Territory of Delhi. It includes Delhi and many districts around it, including those from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. In 1985, the NCR and its associated National Capital Region Planning Board were established to plan development in the region and develop harmonized policies to control land-uses and improve infrastructure development in the region. The NCR's most prominent cities include Delhi, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Gurugram and Noida are also among them.

    The 1985 National Capital Region Planning Board Act created the National Capital Region and its planning committee. The 1985 Act defined the NCR to include the entire of Delhi, the Haryana districts (Faridabad, Gurgaon and Sonipat), Rohtak (then comprising Jhajjar Tehsil), the Rewari Tehsil (then in Mahendragarh District); and the Uttar Pradesh districts (Bulandshahr and Muzaffarnagar), Meerut (then inclusive Baghpat Tehsil), Ghaziabad, and some of the Rajasthan district of Alwar). The NCR's 1985 boundary covered 34,144 km.


    The 1962 Master Plan for Delhi described an area known as the Delhi Metropolitan Area. This was before the NCR was created. The DMA was defined in the 1962 Master Plan for Delhi as the National Capital Territory, the ring towns Ghaziabad Faridabad and Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh, Gurgaon and Loni. It also included certain rural areas that had a population slightly less than 2 million in 1951. In August 1990, the "Master Plan for Delhi" was approved. It added Noida and Bahadurgarh to the DMA.     Gautam Budh Nagar was formed in 1997 from the NCR districts of Ghaziabad & Bulandshahr. The new district's headquarters was located in Noida. Baghpat district was also created in 1997 from the Baghpat Tehsil of Meerut. The NCR expanded to include three additional districts in July 2013. These were Bhiwani and Mahendragarh, both in Haryana, and Bharatpur, in Rajasthan. The NCR now has 19 districts, with the total area of the NCR increasing by 34% to 45.887 km2.     The Government of India approved three additional districts to be included in NCR on nine June 2015. These were Jind, Panipat and Karnal in Haryana, and Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The total area covered is 50,566km2. Shamli district in U.P. In December 2017, Shamli district in U.P. was added to the NCR. There are 24 districts in the NCR as of 2021. This includes the eleven districts of Delhi.
