The changes also came with the introduction of the new foreign contribution regulation act rules, 2011 which was amended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and will take effect on may 26, 2025. Some of the most important changes are an increased compliance requirement on ngos that want to be registered, previously permitted or renewed. Other documents will now be required to be submitted by the applicants, like resolutions by governing bodies and affidavits by key members. Interestingly, ngos involved in publication sectors are not to take part in the news-related activities to be neutral and to avoid the misuse of foreign funds.
